Parent & Student Rights
Understanding your rights regarding educational data collected and processed by Viddarpan on behalf of your school.
Overview
Viddarpan believes that parents and students are the ultimate owners of their educational data. While schools (the Data Controllers) use Viddarpan (the Data Processor) to manage this information, your rights to privacy, access, and control remain paramount.
This document outlines the core rights granted to parents and eligible students under various global and regional educational privacy laws, and how Viddarpan supports schools in fulfilling those rights.
Your Core Rights
1. The Right to Access
Parents and eligible students have the right to inspect and review the student's education records maintained by the school.
- How Viddarpan helps: The Viddarpan Parent Portal and Student App provide real-time, 24/7 access to grades, attendance, behavior reports, and financial ledgers, eliminating the need for formal requests for routine information.
2. The Right to Rectification
If you believe that any information in your child's educational record is inaccurate or misleading, you have the right to request that the school amend the record.
- How Viddarpan helps: While Viddarpan cannot directly alter records on behalf of a parent, our platform provides built-in communication tools allowing parents to directly message school administrators or teachers to request corrections.
3. The Right to Consent (Data Sharing)
In most jurisdictions, schools must generally have written permission from the parent or eligible student in order to release any information from a student's education record to third parties.
- How Viddarpan helps: Viddarpan does not share, sell, or rent student data to third parties. Any integration with third-party tools (e.g., a reading app or a transportation service) must be explicitly authorized and configured by your school's administrators.
4. The Right to Erasure (The Right to be Forgotten)
Under specific regulations like the GDPR, individuals have the right to request the deletion of personal data.
- How Viddarpan helps: Parents must submit deletion requests directly to their school, as the school holds the legal authority over the educational record. Viddarpan provides school administrators with the necessary tools to completely and securely purge a student's data from our systems upon request, in compliance with the school's data retention policies.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Because Viddarpan acts solely as a service provider (Data Processor) to your school, all formal requests to exercise your data rights must be directed to your school's administration.
If Viddarpan receives a direct request from a parent or student regarding data access, correction, or deletion, our policy is to:
- Notify the individual that the request must be made to the school.
- Promptly forward the request to the designated administrative contact at the relevant school.
- Assist the school, if requested, in fulfilling the data request using our administrative tools.
COPPA Compliance (For US Schools)
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects the online privacy of children under the age of 13. Viddarpan relies on the school to provide the necessary consent on behalf of parents for the collection of student data required for the educational context. We do not use this data for any commercial purpose, and we never use student data to target advertisements.
